ADMISSIONS

The safety and comfort of all of our pet guests is always our first concern. Because of our commitment to a safe environment we will not admit pets lacking proof of either vaccinations or immune status blood titers, parasite control, displaying signs of untreated or potentially contagious conditions, or aggressive behavior. Protection from communicable disease is aided by vaccinations. Vaccinations provide protection by safely exposing the body to pathogens. They are intended to stimulate the immune system and for that reason should not be given during periods of illness or stress. Reactions and mild forms of the disease for which the vaccination is given may sometimes occur. For these reasons vaccinations should be administered more than seven days prior to a stay, two weeks is ideal. Bring in your vaccination record for Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella as well as your veterinary statement of an annual fecal exam or continuous monthly use of ivermectin/pyrantel to minimize exposure to parasites.

We care to provide personalized care. We can only do that through communication with you. In order for us to do that we ask that drop-offs and pick-ups are by the owner of the pet. Occasionally, pre-arranged pick-up by a third party can be scheduled. Expect that we will check identification. We know that your pet is important to you and we will not release your pet to anyone else.

HOURS
We keep stress low so our guests are comfortable. Our daily routine of care is scheduled around their needs and we avoid disruptions to meet their needs in a timely fashion. Pet care is our priority. All drop-offs, pick-ups, tours and drive up visits require appointments during our People Hours in order to protect the pets from excessive excitement, especially during their quiet times. We regret that we cannot receive visits for drop-off or pick-up of your pet at any time other than during our posted People Hours for human business appointments. Should you arrive prior to or after our posted hours there will be an additional $35 charge to conduct any business, as this tends to be very disruptive to our guests and we appreciate your respect for our private time and property. Please see our Location and Hours page.
CONTACTING US

Pet care is always our first priority just as you would expect. We believe that when we are with the pets they deserve our full attention just as you deserve our full attention when we talk. For those reasons, we are not available on cellular or mobile phones to answer your calls. We must rely on our messaging systems for the above reasons. Phone calls and email are checked several times a day. We do have to prioritize calls occasionally, but your call will be returned within 24 hours on Monday through Fridays. Our business office is closed on weekends except for urgencies and emergencies. Please leave a message or try us again. Our return call to you may be from a different number than 367-4111. This can happen when we return your call using our long distance server as it goes through a different number or if we use a different line to call you asap. So you may want to check the private or blocked number calls that you get if you are expecting us to call. If you have "Privacy Manager" and you really want to hear back from me please leave your pin number.
You can email us at hickoryhill@wi.rr.com. Please put something like "new client from web site" or "Sparky wants to visit" or similar subject in your email heading. We get so much spam, that our spam eater gobbles it up and gets really big, so your subject will help us catch it right away. (Regretably, our email server is not fast or reliable, it's best to use the phone.) Be sure to leave dates or pertinent information so we can best respond to your call! When we become frustrated with some of the depersonalization of communication technology we remind ourselves that we could not give this level of care to the dogs without a full time secretary and a full time bookkeeper if we did not have this technology. We hope you know it helps us provide excellent care and keep expenses down.

Bathing   Your dog will be bathed for a modest fee if he becomes soiled. A bath can be scheduled, but we do not encourage it. We do not offer grooming, as we want your pet to only have positive associations with his stay here.

Giving Meds    Medication administration or treatments. (We require the original labeled prescription to give your pet medications. This is for safe practice or should we have questions or need to contact your pet's vet.) Oral medications or supplements are .75 per incident.

Unanticipated Needs    We will meet any reasonable, special needs that arise and add the expense to your bill.

New Clients   Payment from new clients is expected at drop-off.

Non-emergency health concerns are directed to your local veterinarian or the available veterinarian we deem appropriate. All charges are the responsibility of the pet owner.

Difficult Pets    All of our pet guests are provided with a high level of nurturant care. Should excessively difficult or aggressive pets require additional people and/or time in order that we may deliver proper care, we reserve the right to charge additional handling fees for those pets.
